Owners of private lands and forests complain that people often take away more than they're allowed to. Those picking mushrooms and chestnuts also cause damage by roaming in the forests in mass numbers. In some places foresters and police officers supervize how much people actually pick.

Gabriel Seljak from the Nova Gorica Agriculture and Forestry Institute says mushrooms are also important for the forest's vegetation and its growth. He also reminds that not all mushrooms are edible, and that it's always wiser not to pick a mushroom you don't know and cannot identify.
