The president of the national assembly, Milan Brglez as well as president Borut Pahor, who laid a wreath at the memorial, took part in this year’s commemoration.

On the 8th January 1943, the Pohorje battalion was surrounded by about 2,000 German soldiers. The battle that ensued left 69 of the fighters dead. The fighters who died as a result of the battle were transported to the Austrian city of Graz and buried at its local cemetery, where they remain to this day.
A few years ago, ideas of digging up the remains of the fighters in order to bury them in Slovenia with the highest honors emerged, but they were opposed to by the relatives.
