More than 375 thousands of migrants came to Slovenia by the West Balkan route, which is 250 times more than the year before. The Amnesty International (AI) annual report states that the conditions in reception and accommodation centres were not adequate.

The report also states that the authorities had not righted injustices to the erased adequately, as after cessation of validity of the law on regulating status of citizens of the states of the former SFRY in 2013 no new legal options for regulation of their status were available. Less than one half of the total of 25,671 individuals unlawfully erased from the register of permanent inhabitants managed to get back the legal status.

Topical Roma problems
Also in 2016, discrimination and social exclusion of the majority of approximately ten thousand Roma continued, with many of them living in isolated Roma settlements without legal housing security, and without access to basic infrastructure, AI established.
Act on marriage and freedom of speech
They also mentioned the amended act on marriage and family relations which would equalize rights of hetero- and same-sex couples. The amended act was rejected by the referendum, and consequently the same-sex couples are still discriminated.
