Giani took Slovenia to first place in the European League and first place in the Group 3 of the World League. In October 2015, his team won silver at the European Championship in Bulgaria and Italy. Giani shared his decision with the president of the Slovenian Volleyball Association Metod Ropret on Thursday morning.

Giani grateful for the opportunity

"Even though we had wanted Andrea to stay on as the coach, he chose differently. As he told me during our telephone conversation, he made the final decision yesterday evening after a discussion with his staff. In any case, we are very grateful to Andrea for everything he has given to Slovenian volleyball and Slovenian sports in general. We wish him all the best," said the president of the Association.

Giani also spoke about his farewell: "I would simply like to thank you for accepting me and giving me this opportunity. I'm grateful that I could share this wonderful experience with you. With plenty of sacrifice, we managed to put together a team with a capital T, a team with a strong identity. I'm proud of what we have achieved and proud that you are using our success as a starting point for your future."
