The decision fell because Balažic had been sitting with a convicted pedophile, Nicholas Oman, at a ceremony. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has changed the findings of a supervision of the ambassador’s work. First it assessed that there was no irregularity, however some testimonies and photographs have later changed that assessment.

The government also said that the ambassador has lost the trust of Australian Slovenes and that having good relations with migrant organizations was one of the most important tasks an ambassador has.

Expatriates in Australia have also sent a petition against Balažic to President Borut Pahor and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The decree on his dismissal will be signed by President Pahor.
