Better data can lead to better life. For some years “Better data, better life” has been the slogan of the European Statistics Day, which is celebrated on 20 October. The objective of this day is to raise public awareness of the value and importance of official statistical data. In the deluge of data, national statistics is the one with the quality stamp, since institutions providing high-quality official statistical data are committed to use common standards, comparable methodologies and consider statistical confidentiality.
Because data are not an end in themselves, they get true value only when they are used. Correctly and appropriately used data are the basis for making appropriate decisions in private and business life. To make the data as useful as possible, we provide them on our website www.stat.si in various forms; from simple infographics in online releases and printed publications to detailed data in our SI-STAT Database tables. In addition you can browse the data combined with a spatial dimension in our STAGE application or check the profile of Slovene municipalities in Regions and Municipalities in Numbers. And, if you are interested to know how many people in Slovenia were born on your birthday, you can do so in the Names and Birthdays application.
