"
18-year old Bor Kankaraš is a pupil of the Secondary School of Multimedia and Graphic Technology Ljubljana, interested in computer editing. He entered the Wargaming international contest for creation of a trailer for the new Hollywood movie Fury - a patriotic epic story from the Second World War about five American soldiers, a Sherman tank crew, and the last days of the war, featuring Brad Pitt as the commander named Wardaddy, Logan Lerman, Shia LaBeouf - more as a joke than for real, and - Bor won!
The family is proud
"It could be said I grew up watching war movies, and I still like to watch them when the opportunity arises. But I like quite a lot of genres, too many to choose only one - besides war movies I like action movies, comedies, science fiction," Bor explains. His reward for winning the contest was a trip to the other side of the world, to Washington, to the film premiere, and he prolonged his stay in the USA by staying in New York for two more days. He had the opportunity to stand on the red carpet and meet the actors and the director David Ayer, the vice president of the USA, the owner of the Sony Entertainment studios, the owner of the Wargaming company… His command of the English language is very good, so he had no problems communicating. Bor's mother, TV editor Tanja Zajc, told us that he has learned English primarily through computer, and his web connections with the entire world. She continued: "Bor has three sisters, and we all support him and are proud of him."
He was surprised by America
We asked how it felt to walk on the red carpet for the first time, and what kind of impression the USA made on the young man during his first visit there. "To be honest, I didn't feel much while standing on the red carpet in front of all those cameras, paparazzi, flashes and a crowd of people. But afterwards, when I thought about the event, I was shocked that I had stood on the red carpet at the premiere of a Hollywood movie! I was very surprised by America. I saw so many new things that I can easily say that this experience changed my view on the world. I will never forget driving in a cab through New York, and getting out at the Times Square. The size of the city alone was a big surprise, and then the huge crowds of people, unbelievably tall buildings, completely different surroundings…" Bor explains, and continues: "I met all the five stars from the movie, including Brad Pitt. It came as a surprise, as I hadn't expected the actors to mingle with us guests. But they did, they strolled through the hall and whoever wanted could join them."
Puzzled looks, and a lot of questions
How did his schoolmates react? "I told only my closest friends about it, let's say it I preferred it that way. But when the school published my achievement on the web portal and on the notice board, everybody learned about it. And then congratulations started coming. Most everybody reacted in the same way: with puzzled looks, and a lot of questions." It seems some possibilities for future cooperation were mentioned in the USA. We asked Bor whether he would chose a field connected with film, after finishing secondary school. Has he already chosen his career? "I am not sure yet what I will study, but I intend to continue with videoproduction, regardless of everything. Of course I hope to get the opportunity to do that for a living. They say you don't have to 'work' even for a day if you like what you do for living."
The sole role model: his father
And what about the role models from movies? "I don't have any role models from the world of film, my sole role model is my father," Bor said. He described how his 'love story' with film began: "It started as a hobby. When I was ten I was already watching all kinds of videos and movies, and I started wondering how it was done. And then I started learning, at first with basic programmes. I tried to reproduce the scenes I found the most interesting. Gradually I replaced the basic programmes with programmes used by Universal, Paramount, Warner Bros and other studios. I learned everything by myself, or through the web. We might say I have roused the enthusiasm for videoproduction within myself, by myself. Moving images, and sound give us unlimited options. That's what encourages me to keep learning, and upgrade my knowledge"
