Although no mass is celebrated on this day, Easter worshiping will be celebrated with reading of the Passion, i.e. those parts of the Gospels describing the apprehension of Jesus, his interrogation in front of the rulers, his conviction, his suffering, and his death on the cross. At that occasion they will also pray for the modern society and its leaders, non-believers, and the relations with the Jewish community.
Although Good Friday is celebrated with a hint of sadness, the Slovenian Bishops Conference claims that we should not forget that joy and hope have their own purpose as well. Christians believe that Jesus didn't suffer and die in vain, as after his resurrection his suffering and death resulted into eternal life.
The Vatican Good Friday ceremony will be celebrated by Pope Francis, and in the evening Stations of the Cross prayer will be traditionally held in the Roman colosseum, joined by believers from all over the world. He announced that he would also pray for children and sexual abuse victims, and ask for forgiveness.
