The open door days will last for three days and will mostly take place at the Sevnica Castle. The aim is to present this east southern town by the Sava River to the local as well as foreign public, which is why a number of journalists from abroad have been invited, too.

The mayor of Sevnica Srečko Ocvirk has explained the idea for open door days comes from the anticipation that the birthplace of America’s new first lady would attract more guests and more attention from the media as well as travel agencies.

On Friday morning open door days were launched with a guided tour of the town called ‘Sevnica, a treasury of adventures’, which was followed by a presentation of the local tourist offer and brands at the Sevnica Castle.

On Saturday, the guided tour will be repeated and completed with a tour of the castle as well as an opening of a castle pub called the Nobleman’s Daughter. Sunday will also offer guided tours as well as host the traditional 8th Castle Cut in the vineyard of the Sevnica Castle.

Ocvirk has added that participation is free of charge for all events. The aim is to use the inauguration of the new American first lady and the attention of media worldwide to promote Sevnica as an interesting tourist destination.

Media attention
Until now, Sevnica has been famous for its reputable companies such as Lisca, Kopitarna and Tanin as well as top-quality salami, apiculture and winemaking. In the past few months, however, the town has also attracted the attention of media due to its former resident Melania Trump, the wife of America’s new president.

The area of Sevnica had been populated as early as prehistoric times. The first mention of the settlement, then under its German name Liehtenwalde, dates back to the year 1275, while the town obtained the right to trade in 1322. The town has approximately 5,000 inhabitants and became the centre of a municipality in 1952.
