The 32-year-old Lara, a world champion in the WBA and IBO rankings, forced the 39-year-old Zavec to surrender the match in the third round already. The native of Ptuj could not continue the match because of pain in his right shoulder and neck.

Zavec "survived" a powerful direct hit
The Cuban was the better fighter all along. He stunned the Slovenian champion with several good punches. In the second round he seriously shook the ground below Zavec’s feet with a powerful left hit. He then finished off his work in the third round, when referee Telis Assimenios stopped the bout due to Zavec’s injuries.
The native of Ptuj to box at least one more time
With the technical knock-out Lara recorded his 22nd career victory. Despite Zavec’s fourth career loss (35 wins) he has retained his WBF championship belt, as the managers did not accept to negotiate the unification of the belts. That means that the native of Ptuj will most certainly box at least one more time.
