Yesterday the bill on marriage and family relationships was denied support. The opponents managed to collect enough votes for a rejection quorum. According to unofficial data given by the National Electoral Commission almost 392,000 votes against the bill were cast.
The opponents of the amending act were much more strongly motivated than in 2012, when a decision was being made on acceptance of the family law. At that time 280,000 were opposed to the law, i.e. almost 112,000 votes less. The supporters of the new act managed to attract less people to the polling stations than three years ago. Thus yesterday 225,000 eligible voters supported the amending act, while three years ago 8000 more votes were given in favour of the family law, Tomaž Celestina reported for Radio Slovenija.
All electoral units against the amending act
In all eight electoral units the vote against the act prevailed. The most decisive rejection of the act was expressed in the eight electoral unit in Ptuj, where almost 74% of the voters voted "AGAINST" the change; especially the 11th electoral district stood out with 82.4% of votes against the amended act.
The least advantage of the opponents was recorded in the third electoral unit with only 51. 32% votes against, and in the seventh electoral district Ljubljana Center 68.5% of the voters voted in favour of the amending act.
The supporters of the amending act won only in 14 out of 88 Slovenia electoral districts in.
