Tax Administration of the Republic of Slovenia on Tuesday temporarily stopped the operation of two inns, namely Ringlšpil in the town Radlje ob Dravi, and Makalonca in Ljubljana, based on the reasonable suspicion of serious violations of tax and other regulations. As Darja Meglič reported for Televizija Slovenija, today's inspection was carried out in secrecy, mostly to prevent the owners to prepare for the visit of tax inspectors and customs officers. According to the newspaper Finance Business Daily, the restaurant Pizzeria Napoli in Ljubljana was closed, and according to the daily newspaper Večer the coffeehouse Mistika in Maribor as well.

Since July 1 of this year all the taxable persons who deal with cash are obliged to have cash registers with special software to prevent deleting and modifying of the bills. In spite of that, some taxable persons keep evading the payment of taxes, using all kinds of means to gain illegal savings. Some don't issue bills, and some issue only copies of bills.

Tax Administration of the Republic of Slovenia has experience with very innovative measures the owners of inns, but also other taxable persons (butchers, florists, hairdressers, chandlers, small shop owners, gardeners) take to evade tax obligations. Some don't issue bills, or issue several copies of the original of an issued bill. Some also issue documents they name differently, e.g. intermediate bill, or instead notes named 'open table status'; sometimes they issue bills without all the necessary data on issuer, i.e. bill without the tax number, or the name of the company etc.
