At a conference in Austria, the European Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner said that ageing population could undermine growth in the future and that the reform process was needed not only for bridging the crisis but also for effectively tackling long-term challenges. Earlier this year Slovenia was given two more years from the European Commision to deal with its excessive budget deficit. Commissioner Rehn said that countries given addition time for fiscal consolidation should use this time to effectively speed up structural reforms.
