Franz Liszt is born. He was the Hungarian composer and virtuoso pianist who was considered the most important pianists of his time. He developed the symphonic poem and for his time very bold harmony.
In 1883 the New York Metropolitan Opera opened its doors, and in Paris on the same day in 1928 Ravel's Bolero premiered.
In 1887 at the patent office in New York Nikola Tesla registered his first six inventions. During his life Tesla patented more than 700 inventions. Many of his inventions form the basis of modern electricity. His most famous invention is the multi-phase induction motor, invented in 1882 and built at a later date. The first hydroelectric power plant at Niagara Falls was built according to his plan.
In 1906, French artist Paul Cezanne dies. He was one of the founders of modern painting. Cezanne painted landscapes, portraits and still life.
In 1944, the Slovene Association of Journalists is founded. Following decisions made at the first Slovenian press conference on liberated territory near Metlika, in Črnomelj the founding General Assembly is held

In 1952 American actor Jeff Goldblum is born.
In 1964 Croatian basketball player Drazen Petrović is born. He became one of the best Croatian sportsmen and a professional basketball player. He joined the American NBA in 1989. Petrović died in a car accident at the age of 28.
