As the screenwriter he weaved in his conviction into the Festival of the Slovenian patriotic songs Mati domovina (Motherland), this year under the slogan 25 for 25.

"It is symbolic - this country has left behind 25 years, and everybody can draw a balance of his/her own, at times good, and occasionally bad, but in any case this evening is worth celebrating. It is the right moment to look back, and to make a good start for the next 25 years in order to make things even better," he explained why the number of chosen songs and performers corresponded to the 25th jubilee anniversary.
"This time we chose some guidelines chronologically, from the first ideas on United Slovenia, May Declaration, dreams born in the old Yugoslavia - an independent state for Slovenians. We marked the bright spots in the history of Slovenia, among which the recognition by the international community most certainly belongs. Soon after gaining independence Slovenia became an independent subject in international relationships, an equal partner. We wanted to emphasize that, and not divisions among Slovenians which are unfortunately so very common nowadays," he concluded.

This year's Motherland Festival with brigadier Tone Krkovič as manager, and Patrik Greblo as art director, was organized for the fourth time, with the President of the Republic Borut Pahor as the guest of honour.

Boris Kopitar was one of the performers who appeared on the stage of the packed Cankar Hall on Thursday night. "I had been among the enthusiasts as well. I expected us to be our own masters once we were in our own state. Today things are as they are. But - there is still time for dreams!"
