Slovenia's president stressed that overcoming the economice crisis is of decisive importance for the country. He also called for a more efficient judiciary. Mr. Pahor moreover called for unity and dialogue.

This year’s ceremony was boycotted by the Association for the Values of Slovenian Independence because of the presence of WWII flag bearers with symbols of the red star. The opposition SDS also boycotted the event. Earlier in the day at a ceremonial session at the National Assembly SDS members wore white t-shirts saying »Svoboda Janši« (Freedom for Janša).
