Slovenia therefore needs to find a source that could provide a stable pension in the future. To this end, the country will form a demographic reserve fund. A number of European countries have such a fund. Its primary purpose is to help with long-term savings which can be used when the pension scheme is not in a good position due to a low ratio between the active and retired population. Some experts say that the fund needed at least EUR 10 billion to sustain the pension system in the long run.
