Završan had to get a lorry driver’s license for his role in the film and he even spent last summer driving a lorry. He transported zucchini from Germany to Italy and tomatoes from the Netherlands to Greece.
TIR is a fictional documentary, filmed in naturalistic style. It’s a story of a Muslim who can’t get a job as a teacher, so he decides to become a lorry driver.
The film is an effort of Italian-Croatian independent production. It wasn’t among the favorites for the grand prize, named after Marcus Aurelius. This is Fasulo’s first feature film and he was handed the prize by the jury’s president James Gray. Gray said that this film was the obvious choice for the win.
The main prizes for best actors at the 8th Rome Film Festival were given to Hollywood stars Scarlett Johansson (Her) and Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club).
