Musicians, who were the youngest participants in the competition, did not only convince the jury, but also received an award from the audience in addition to the first prize.

19-year-old Jan Čibej is a student of the 1st year at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana and a pupil of the 4th year at the Poljane Grammar School, while Luka Poljanec, an 18-year-old, is a student of the 4th year at the Conservatory of Music and Ballet Ljubljana. Their mentor is Simon Klavžar, professor of percussion and chamber music at the conservatory and assistant professor at the academy.

The International Percussion Competition Luxembourg for percussion duos takes place every nine years. The event is a member of the Geneva-based World Association of International Music Competitions, which is an association of 125 most prestigious musical competitions and unites only four percussion events – in Munich, Geneva, Eindhoven and Luxembourg. Musicians up to the age of 36 years (or up to 60 years when the combined age of both members is taken into account) can participate.

The young Slovenian percussionists stood against much older, even professional percussionists, and each duo had to prepare 85 minutes of the programme.
