The head of the Park of Military History in Pivka, Janko Boštjančič, says the fact that "the military museum highlighting Slovenia's independence was created in the barracks of the former Yugoslav army, from which on the 26th of June, 1991, the first tanks started the aggression of the Yugoslav army on the just turned independent Republic of Slovenia, carries a great symbolic message".

There were great feelings of nostalgia among visitors at the last part of the exhibition – a living room of a Slovenian family on the 27th of June 1991, with the central news hosted by the late Tomaž Terček playing on TV.

The whole military technology on showcase
The whole military technology connected to Slovenia's independence war is showcased in the big exhibition hall: planes, tanks, helicopters and other army vehicles. For many the Path to Independence exhibition will bring back memories of the recent history of the nation, on military services in the Yugoslav People's Army, on the day of pride when Slovenia became an independent country, and the period of uncertainty and at the same time strong determination for having an own country.
