Unions say the decision is harmful for the interests of the Slovenian economy and tourism. The decision to stop the project would also hurt port operator Luka Koper and the Slovenske Železnice railway company. The government said building a second rail track was too expensive, putting costs at around EUR 1,4bn. Unions say project costs could be lower.
