"I think that the mission of every bishop is to become a bishop of the people. The first thing a bishop should take care of is the pastoral, to take care of god's people and be close to them. To know how they breathe, feel, to know their worries and expectations, and at the same time also learn from them." Foto: BoBo

This was the first time for the new Archbishop of Ljubljana, Franciscan Stane Zore, to present himself to the public. On the occasion he also revealed some of his visions on what the true mission of every bishop should be.

"I think that the mission of every bishop is to become a bishop of the people. The first thing a bishop should take care of is the pastoral, to take care of god's people and be close to them. To know how they breathe, feel, to know their worries and expectations, and at the same time also learn from them," Zore said.

Stane Zore also admitted that the reputation of the Church in Slovenia "has been shaken". "We cannot restore trust in the Church with declarations and trust cannot be won over by giving orders. We will work for the good of all people, especially for those most in need of help, and we will be sincere to every human. Only in that way shall we restore trust in the Church," announced Zore.

"Outside people haven't lost their trust in priests. People who have the chance to personally meet priests in their parishes say – our parish priest is good, but it is the Church that is a little problematic," he added. According to Zore trust in the whole institution can be restored only with honesty, sincerity and consistency.
