In 1919, the Slovenian actor Ignacij Borštnik dies. He is one of the first actors with a realistic touch. The Borštnik awards are named after him for achievements in Slovenian Theatre, the highest of which being the Borštnik ring for lifetime achievement.

In 1938, in New York a time capsule is buried which our descendants should open in the year 6939. In the capsule is a woman's hat, men's pipe and numerous microfilms.

In 1939, the Austrian doctor and psychoanalytic of Jewish descent, Sigmund Freud dies.

In 1973 in Santiago de Chile, the Chilean writer, critic and communist politician, and winner of the Nobel Literary Prize in 1971, Pablo Neruda dies.

In 1973, the British pedagogue Alexander Sutherland Neill dies. In 1924 he founded the Summerhill boarding school. The school is noted for its philosophy that children learn best with freedom from coercion.

In 2002, web browser Mozilla Firefox was initialy released.

In 2004, the longest viaduct in Slovenia, the Črni Kal Viaduct, was opened.

1967 - The Box Tops are No. 1 on the US singles chart with 'The Letter'.

1989 - At the top of the American and British charts is Milli Vanilli with the song 'Girl You Know It's True'.

1995 - Jamaican Ragga singer Shaggy scored No. 1 UK single whit 'Boombastic'.

2001 - Kylie Minogue is No. 1 on the UK singles chart with 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head'.

2007 - James Blunt is No. 1 on the UK album chart with 'All The Lost Souls'. The first single produced from the album was '1973'.

BORN ON THIS DAY

1930 - Ray Charles, American jazz, soul and blues singer, who became blind at the age of seven. Among his greatest hits were 'Georgia on my mind' and 'Hit the road Jack'.

1943 - Spanish singer Julio Iglesias. He sold about 100 million albums, (1981 'Begin The Beguine').

1949 - Singer Bruce Springsteen, known as 'The Boss'. He had many No. 1 singles, including 'Dancing In The Dark', 'Streets of Philadelphia' and 'Born in the U. S. A'.

NA DANAŠNJI DAN

Leta 1919 je umrl slovenski igralec Ignacij Borštnik. Bil je igralec v prvi generaciji slovenskih poklicnih igralcev. Po njem se imenuje Borštnikov prstan, ki ga podelijo najboljšim slovenskim ustvarjalcem na področjih filma in gledališča.

Leta 1938 so v New Yorku zakopali časovno kapsulo, ki naj bi jo naši potomci odprli šele leta 6939. V njej so ženski klobuk, moška pipa in številni mikrofilmi.

Leta 1939 je umrl avstrijski psihoanalitik judovskega porekla, Sigmund Freud.
