In 1656, Edmond Halley, the English astronomer and head of the Greenwich Observatory is born. Halley's Comet was named after him.

In 1793, in Paris the Louvre museum is opened to the public.

In 1847, the Irish writer Abraham Bram Stoker, who introduced the world of Count Dracula, is born.

In 1860, Abraham Lincoln becomes President of the United States. He worked for the abolition of slavery and succeeded with the Secession War.

In 1923, Adolf Hitler tried in the Munich beer hall to carry out a coup. While staying in prison and with the help of Rudolf Hess he wrote the book Mein Kampf.

In 1999, just four days before his 101 birthday the oldest Olympic champion Leon Štukelj dies. He was a legendary Yugoslav gymnast of Slovene nationality. At the Olympic Games, he won six medals - two gold medals in Paris in 1924, one gold medal and two bronze in Amsterdam in 1928, and a silver medal in Berlin in 1936, with which he concluded his career.

Leta 1656 se je rodil Edmond Halley, angleški astronom, predstojnik greenwiškega observatorija. Po njem se imenuje Halleyjev komet.

Leta 1793 so odprli muzej Louvre v Parizu.

Leta 1847 se je rodil irski pisatelj Abraham Bram Stoker, ki je svetu predstavil grofa Draculo.

Leta 1860 je Abraham Lincoln postal predsednik ZDA. Prizadeval si je za odpravo suženjstva, kar mu je tudi uspelo.

Leta 1923 je Adolf Hitler skušal v munchenski pivnici izvesti državni udar. Med bivanjem v zaporu je ob pomoči Rudolfa Hessa napisal knjigo Mein Kampf.

Na olimpijskih igrah je osvojil šest medalj (tri zlate, eno srebrno in dve bronasti). Leta 1924 je v Parizu zmagal v mnogoboju in na drogu. Štiri leta pozneje je bil najboljši na krogih. V mnogoboju in na ekipni tekmi se je okitil z bronom. Na olimpijskih igrah v Berlinu leta 1936 je bil srebrn na krogih. Štukelj je bil leta 1996 tudi v Atlanti na 26. olimpijskih igrah ob stoletnici OI-ja moderne dobe, kjer je na povabilo Mednarodnega olimpijskega komiteja sodeloval na odprtju, na igrah pa je ostal do konca gimnastičnih tekmovanj.
