A new analysis shows pollution in the soil near the Kemis waste processing plant. The soil analysis shows that the ground is polluted with pesticides and other metals, exceeding safe limits. However, it's still not sure whether the soil pollution is a direct cause of the recent fire at the Kemis plant.Officials call on nearby residents to throw away their garden vegetables, but add that drinking water from the Vrhnika water supply is safe. They also add that apart from the immediate vicinity of the Kemis plant, other soil is suitable for growing food. Meanwhile the Environment Ministry said cleaning the surrounding area will take some time. Around 80 cubic meters of oily residue have already been pumped out of the nearby Tojnica stream.
