In 1933 the American actor Gene Wilder is born. Wilder began his career on stage,his first film role was in Bonnie and Clyde. He wrote Young Frankenstein and has directed and several of his films, including The Woman in Red.
In 1949 in Ljubljana, the Slovenian poet Oton Župančič dies.
In 1959 the English actor and musician Hugh Laurie is born. Laurie's fame expanded, when he first starred as Dr. Gregory House.
In 1979 the American film actor John Wayne, whose real name was Marion Michael Morison, dies. He is best known for his roles in Wild West films.
