This year, he received one of the six prestigeous Prešeren Fund Prize for two of his collections stemming from his life in Japan, contributing to Slovenia's literature (Pesmi z japonskih otokov and Ob rahlo tresoči se tokijski harfi). Kos's poem collection Dober večer, Tokio (Good evening, Tokio, 1960) is not only the first Slovenian book published in Japan, but also one of the first poetry collections of Slovenian modernist peotry.

His first poetry collection (Marija z nami je odšla na tuje) was published in 1945 in Lienz, Austria. Decades after the war, he kept publishing his works in foreign magazines. In Slovenia, Kos has been publishig works since 1995.
