In Ljubljana today NGOs called on the government to stop the deportation of asylum seekers to Croatia. A small protest by asylum seekers and NGOs was held today in front of the Asylum Centre in Ljubljana. Those gathered also called on the government to prevent the planned deportations of two asylum seekers to Croatia, who were only notified about this yesterday. Activists, including Deputy Speaker and MP Nataša Sukič from the Left party, chained themselves to some of the asylum seekers, who said they feared for their lives if sent back to Croatia. The protesters were later also received by Speaker of Parliament Urška Klakočar Zupančič, who expressed support and sympathy for their cause, but did not make any promises. The government says all asylum applications are handled on a case-by-case basis.
