The e Winter Solstice, which is today, marks the shortest day and the longest night of the year when the sun is at its lowest in the sky. The annual phenomenon is caused by the Earth’s North Pole tilting farther away from the Sun than at any other point in the year.

It happened today at 5.19

Winter starts with a night and today we have the first day of winter.

Today the sun is giving the least light and winter time is also having psychological effects on humans.

In the old ages people were making bonfires on winter solstice which were symbolising the sun. They were throwing juniper and laurel branches in the fire.

The calendar winter will end on March the 20th at 3.50 am.
