Shoppers will no longer be able to get free plastic bags in Slovenia. The measure is a part of an EU-wide effort to reduce the usage of plastic bags from the current 200 per person, to 90 per person this year and to lower the production of plastic packaging in general. However free plastic bags will still be allowed for fresh produce, and customers will still be able to get them against payment. However, Slovenia’s new Environment Minister Jure Leben wants to take a step even further and fight for a general plastic bag ban.
