The Competition Protection Agency has temporarily seized 70% of Mercator shares from its owner, Croatian group Agrokor. The seized shares are worth about EUR 140 million.

The move is to ensure that Agrokor pays an almost EUR 54 million fine the Competition Protection Agency imposed three months ago after Agrokor failed to notify it it took over Slovenian bottled water company Costella in 2016. Fortenova group, the successor of Agrokor argued the seizure should have been made by a court.
