The referendum campaign for the Waters Act changes officially kicks off today.
The referendum on the amendments to the Waters Act will take place on the 11th of July. Those who wish to formally join the campaign have until mid-June to register and open dedicated bank accounts, which gives them access to debates hosted by public media.
The NGO's which initiated the referendum claim the new legislation eases construction near water areas and might lead to the over-development of coastal areas. The government claims the opposite - that the new legislation will make it more difficult to build on coastal land.
