Leta 793 se z vikinškim zavzetjem samostana Lindisfarne na angleškem otoku Holy začne vikinška doba v Angliji.

Leta 1508 se je na Rašici pri Velikih Laščah rodil slovenski protestant Primož Trubar. Prvi slovenski knjigi Katekizem in Abecednik, s katerima je Trubar postavil temelj slovenskega knjižnega jezika in književnosti, sta izšli leta 1550. Od leta 2010 je 8. junij dan Primoža Trubarja in tudi državni praznik.
