Former US President George H.W. Bush has died. He was 94. He led the country from 1989 to 1993. His wife of 73 years, Barbara, passed away 7 months ago.

Tributes to the former head of state poured in from world leaders, including Slovenian president Borut Pahor. He sent his condolences to the Bush family and also to current president, Donald Trump.

Bush had been a World War 2 aviator and oil tycoon in his native Texas before he entered politics.

His time as president was marked by the end of the Cold War, a warming of relations with Russia and its leader Mikhail Gorbachev, and the first war in Iraq against Saddam Hussein.

Despite poor health in recent years, he still made a number of public appearances. His son, George W.Bush, described him as "a remarkable man."
