Slovenian cyclist Primož Roglič has finished 3rd overall at the Giro d'Italia, the first of the big three grand tours.

Today's final stage was a 17km individual time trial around Verona and was won by American Chad Haga in a time of 22 minutes and 7 seconds.

Roglič started the day in 4th on the general classification, behind Spain's Mikel Landa, but ended up on the podium by a mere 8 seconds after finishing 10th today.

The overall race win went to Ecuador's Richard Carapaz. He becomes only the second South American to win the race.

Local favourite Vincenzo Nibali was 2nd overall after finishing 9th on today's stage, just ahead of Roglič.

Another Slovenian, Jan Polanc, who wore the race leader's pink jersey during the 3-week tour, finished 15th in the final standings.
