Government to decide on stimulus package
The government will take a vote today to decide on an economic stimulus package estimated at 2 billion euros. A session about it was held yesterday, but further talks, that will continue today, were needed due to its complexity. The measures include a temporary basic income for the self-employed, loan guarantees for companies, co-financing of social contributions and temporary layoffs and a one-off allowance for pensioners. Prime Minister Janez Janša hopes the legislation will be approved and taking effect by the 1st of April so that it could fully cover the next two months. For now, the legislation would apply only to April and May.
