The situation is worst at the largest hospital in the country, UKC Ljubljana.
Underpaid and overburdened nurses – some work three shifts - are struggling to find replacements, in particular at intensive care units.
They have been leaving hospitals for better paid and less demanding jobs. Some go abroad, others look for non-nursing jobs in the corporate sector.
