Slovenia has granted citizenship to Angelika Mlinar, a former Austrian MEP.
She is an Austrian citizen but ethnic Slovenian. Mlinar has lived in Slovenia for several years.
She has been nominated to head the office in charge of cohesion policy.
The government said granting her citizenship was in the government's immediate interest.
