More lockdown restrictions come into force today.
The entire country is declared a red zone. Kindergartens, hotels, shopping centres, hair salons and student dorms close their doors.
Parents taking work days off to mind their children will get an 80% pay subsidy. Education Minister Simona Kustec called on local mayors to make childcare available for parents who must work.
A ban on crossing regions and a police curfew between 9pm and 6am is also still in place.
The biggest hospitals in the country, UKC Ljubljana and UKC Maribor, have temporarily suspended all elective procedures and surgeries. The hospitals say they lack staff and will dedicate most of their resources to treat coronavirus patients.
