New restrictions for Coastal-Karst region
As of midnight travel to or from the Coastal-Karst region will be forbidden. Due to the worsening epidemiological situation in that region, any gatherings there will also be banned. However, schools will remain open and travel between municipalities within the region will still be allowed.
The director of the National Public Health Institute, Mr Krek, said 25% of all the infections in the neighbouring Italian region, Friuli Venezia Giulia, were caused by the UK variant. He added that the worsening situation in the Coastal-Karst region might be a direct result of the presence and spreading of that variant in Slovenia. Meanwhile officials confirmed the first case of the South African variant in Slovenia, in a doctor from Maribor who had recently returned from Africa.
