President Borut Pahor responded to the news about the Government Communication Office (UKOM) informing the government about suspending the financing of the Slovenian Press Agency (STA).
He said that the agency was doing an important job in the interest of the public, which is why its existence should not be jeopardised. The president has already contacted UKOM's leadership.
Following broad criticism from other media outlets, as well as, both the coalition and opposition, he called on the government and the STA management to resolve any existing issues that had led to the suspension of funding of the agency.
UKOM's claims that STA director has failed to send them the requested documentation, have been rejected by the STA's head.
The issue is expected to be discussed tomorrow by the parliamentary Culture Committee.
