Next to poetry recitals and readings taking place across the country, there are more than 60 bars accepting a verse as currency.

People can pay for coffee or tea by reading or reciting a verse, a tradition adopted by 40 countries all over the world.

The UN declared 21 March World Poetry Day in 1999. The aim was to promote linguistic diversity in poetry and define poetry as a symbol of human creativity.
