The Slovenian Association of WWII Veterans will host a high-profile commemoration ceremony today marking the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The ceremony will begin at 11 am in Ljubljana and will be attended by president Borut Pahor and ombudsman Vlasta Nussdorfer. The keynote speaker will be emeritus professor Maca Jogan. On the 27th of January one of the biggest Nazi concentration camps Auschwitz - Birkenau was liberated by Soviet troops and in 2005 this date was chosen and proclaimed as the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This day is commemorated all over the world but holds a special meaning in countries that had concentration camps with the highest death rates like Germany, Belgium, and Poland. Poland actually had the most camps with the highest death rates. The International Holocaust Remembrance Day will in Slovenia be marked also with several exhibitions.
