Today is Independence and Unity Day

Slovenia celebrates Independence and Unity Day today. It marks the day, exactly 30 years ago, when the results of Slovenia's independence referendum were announced. 95% of the voters voted in favour of independence from Yugoslavia. From the Presidential Palace, President Borut Pahor addressed the nation today. He said we were ending a difficult year, and called for more unity and cooperation in the future. Due to the coronavirus restrictions, there will be no public independence celebrations this year.
