THE SEČOVELJSKE SOLINE REGIONAL PARK
Slovenia is one of the countries with the highest level of biodiversity in the European Union, with around 12% of its territory protected in different categories. The Sečovlje salt pans are protected as a nature park and an internationally important wetland. The park is most famous for its birds, with about 300 species recorded so far. Yet birds are far from being the only inhabitants of the park.
ROSE GARDEN AT VOLČJI POTOK
People usually pay special attention to roses due to their perfection and irresistable smell. In June, Slovenia hosted at the Volčji potok arboretum the first regional Congress of the World Federation of Rose lovers. The Arboretum takes pride in the largest rose garden in Slovenia, with over 900 different varieties of roses growing there.
ILLUSTRATOR JELKA GODEC SCHMIDT                                                                                        Jelka Godec Schmidt is an acclaimed illustrator as well as writter of children's and youth literature. While regularly illustrating for children's magazines, she has illustrated over 100 books, including a collection of Grimm fairy tales, which was published to mark the 200th anniversary of their first edition. She loves books on different topics, while her illustration style always depends on the textual material, which she always carefully studies before beginning her work.
ASTRONOMER TOMAŽ ZWITTER
People have always been interested in observing the sky, wondering about the creation of the world and the existence of other life forms in the universe. Science has made a rapid progress in this field, with scientists trying to offer answers to complex questions related to the universe. One of them is an internationally recognized scientist, Professor of astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology, Tomaž Zwitter.
MOUNT KOFCE
In the Karavanke Mountains, under Slovenia's longest mountain ridge of Košuta, there are numerous mountains with grazing livestock. Especially popular is Mount Kofce with an Alpine mountain lodge, famous for its culinary specialties, especially the štruklji.
