Some 13,000 karstic caves have been discovered in Slovenia so far.
The one closest to the capital Ljubljana is Županova jama or Mayor's Cave near Grosuplje. It was discovered in 1926 by the local mayor, hence its name. The cave is a true pearl of the Karst world in the Dolenjska region.
NATURE PHOTOGRAPHER MATEJ VRANIČ
Matej Vranič's field of expertise is studio, landscape and portrait photography. In recent years he's also been involved in video production. His preferred motifs come from nature, in particular motifs from wildlife. He is considered one of the best Slovenian photographers of this genre.
SCULPTOR VOJC SODNIKAR PONIS
Stone is a hard material which requires a delicate hand. Sculptor Vojc Sodnikar Ponis has tried working with various materials, but he is convinced that stone provides the greatest possibilities for expression. The artist lives and works on the Slovenian coast.
PUPPETEER BRANE VIŽINTIN
Brane Vižintin is one of the greatest Slovenian masters of the art of puppetry. He masters a wide array of puppetry techniques. He is a puppeteer, actor, director and university lecturer.
SLOVENIAN SKIING MUSEUM
One of the most popular sports in Slovenia is skiing. A lot of credit for this goes to Bojan Križaj, as it was his successes that caused euphoria in the entire country. His native town of Tržič in the Gorenjska region is one of the cradles of Slovenian alpine skiing. A number of excellent winter athletes come from here. And now the town also boasts a museum of skiing.
