This year, volunteers in Slovenia will not only pick rubbish at illegal dumping sites but also in areas around rivers and lakes, on the coast, and at other places.

In some municipalities, they will also be planting trees, and refurbishing benches and playgrounds.

More than 70% of Slovenian municipalities have joined the project

The organisers have called on everyone to take part by cleaning their surroundings and report illegal dumpsites.

There are over 10,000 such sites already recorded in Slovenia. Estimates are that they contain enough rubbish to fill 92 Olympic swimming pools. About 40% of this waste comes from building sites.
