The patrol boat Triglav with 37 crew on board set sail for Sicily.
It will take part in an international mission to help those stranded at sea.
The 37-strong crew includes members of the military police and medical personnel. Several more soldiers are already at the Augusta naval base in Sicily.
The current deployment will last until August.
