In Europe the Daylight saving time was introduced for the first time in 1916 in Germany, while Slovenia started turning the clocks in 1983. The measure has been introduced to make better use of daylight, however many believe that it has a negative effect on people’s health and studies show that energy savings connected to the clock changes are negligible. In 2019, the European Commission proposed to abolish the clock turning, but since countries have been unable to agree on which time to use, the proposal is still stuck at the EU Council.
