The National Institute of Public Health says the east of the country experiences more alcohol-related problems, and that the majority of drinkers are male.

In a recent survey a vast majority of Slovenians admitted to drinking. Experts say the habit of drinking beer is also becoming an increasingly bigger problem.

The last official study from 2016 says the average Slovenian drinks 78 litres of beer, 48 litres of wine, and two litres of spirits per year.
